Rick Stein Makes A Splash In Coogee With A New Flagship Seafood Restaurant

Cornwall meets Coogee

By Bianca Licina | 26th May 2025

British chef royalty Rick Stein is bringing his signature seaside flavour to one of Sydney’s most iconic stretches of sand – Coogee Beach.

Come November 2025, beach walks and ocean swims won’t be the only reason to head to Sydney’s Eastern suburbs. Legendary chef Rick Stein, alongside his Australian wife and PR powerhouse Sarah Stein, has officially announced their Australian flagship restaurant – and it’s set to land right on the shores of Coogee Beach.

Located within the newly announced InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach, the upcoming venue, simply named Rick Stein at Coogee Beach, promises everything you love about Stein’s coastal classics — think fresh seafood, simply prepared, with a distinctly Australian soul.

“It’s especially meaningful for me as Sas grew up in Sydney,” says Rick. “Opening a restaurant in her hometown makes this venture all the more special for us both.”

Refined, relaxed, and right by the sea

The restaurant will include a signature dining space, bar seating, and a courtyard terrace – perfect for long lunches, sundowners, and seafood feasts that roll into moonlit evenings. Expect a breezy mix of laid-back charm and polished beachside elegance, with interiors curated by Sarah herself (so yes, the vibe will be as delicious as the food).

The menu: a love letter to the ocean

Stein fans can look forward to a menu overflowing with regional Aussie produce, with seafood stars like Mahi Mahi from Nelson Bay, Stockton Pipis from Port Stephens, and line-caught Mackerel from Ulladulla. There’ll also be Blue Swimmer Crab for his cult-fave Singapore Chilli Crab, and of course, the traditional British-style fish and chips — mushy peas and all.

A third wave of Stein in Australia

Coogee marks the couple’s third Australian location, joining Bannisters Mollymook (2009) and Bannisters Port Stephens (2018), both of which have become beloved destinations for coastal dining done right.

This new Sydney venture is a collaboration with Salter Brothers, who acquired Bannisters Group in 2024. Paul Salter, Managing Director, says:

So whether you’re a Rick Stein devotee, a lover of seafood, or simply a fan of barefoot luxury with a crisp white in hand, this opening is one to bookmark.

Rick Stein at Coogee Beach is coming in hot this November – and it’s already shaping up to be the ultimate seaside seat in town.
