From The Team Behind Rick Shores: A Chic New Bistro Is Coming To South Brisbane

Just in!

By Cali Westmoreland | 22nd July 2025

The crew behind Rick Shores is at it again – this time with a glam new bistro set to light up Fish Lane. Meet Marlowe: your next dining obsession, opening this September just steps from its sibling, Southside. Dreamed up by the ever-stylish Fanda Group (aka the brains behind Rick Shores, Norté, Central and Sueño), Marlowe is what happens when great taste, golden hour vibes, and a serious love of good food all move into a heritage-listed apartment block.

The where

Set inside the heritage-listed 1930s Merivale Flats, Marlowe is all velvet, terrazzo, and charm – a nostalgic, design-forward space imagined by J.AR Office. It’s the kind of spot that feels effortlessly cool, with sun-drenched terraces, curved deco lines and main-character energy in spades.

Behind the menu

In the kitchen, co-owner and head chef Ollie Hansford leads a menu that puts a refined spin on the comfort food you grew up with. Expect dishes like prawn cocktail tartlets, duck pie, and coral trout Wellington with caviar butter – all crafted with hyper-seasonal ingredients and serious finesse.

The wine program, curated by sommelier Peter Marchant, includes over 150 labels, showcasing Australian greats like Henschke, Grosset and Shaw + Smith alongside emerging local producers.

“Marlowe should feel like dropping into a friend’s house – if your friend had a Coravin program, a wood-fired grill, and impeccable taste,” says Fanda Group’s David Flynn.

Equal parts nostalgic and new, intimate and theatrical, Marlowe is more than a restaurant. It’s Fish Lane’s new crown jewel – and your next reason to dress up.

Opening this September, keep your ear to the ground for more deets.
