A Cobblestoned Italian Precinct Is On Its Way To Newstead

newstead's new groove

By Victoria Lewis | 3rd February 2026

Say ciao to la dolce vita! Newstead is set to welcome a vibrant new chapter with Little Italy, a design-led foodie, retail, and wellness hub infused with a healthy dose of authentic Italian flair.

Taking shape with the energy of a charming Italian neighbourhood, the precinct promises lush surrounds, considered architecture, and a street-level buzz that feels as effortless as your last Euro summer getaway – and, of course, plenty of authentic cuisine. Pizza, pasta, prosciutto – mamma mia!

Sitting pretty on Longland Street, Little Italy will be anchored by a luxe, European-inspired residential tower that brings timeless Italian elegance to Brisbane’s inner north.

Developed by Panettiere Developments, the project presents an exciting opportunity to weave Italian architecture, street life and food culture into Newstead’s already thriving cultural landscape, adding warmth, character, and a whole lot of amore.

A poised, playful precinct

Inspired by Italian architecture, street life and food culture, Little Italy is set to become a shopping and dining destination that doubles as a true community centrepiece. Designed to embody everything a great Brisbane precinct should be – walkable, connected, and unmistakably inner-city. And the result will be a perfect blend of local character and global energy.

So, what do we know so far? The first stage of Little Italy is tipped to welcome a cafe, an authentic Italian restaurant, a pizzeria, an artisan gelateria, and a pedestrian-friendly laneway leading to a central plaza within the precinct.

Further stages will roll out an Italian-inspired mercato, delicatessen, bakery, pasta and pastry shop, alongside a curated mix of specialty retailers.

And because nothing connects Brisbane and Italy quite like a buzzing laneway eatery, the mixed-use precinct will feature vibrant laneway activations designed to make you feel like you’re wandering the sun-dappled, cobblestoned streets of Europe (no passport required).

ORO Newstead - Little Italy

Onwards and upwards (literally)

To complement the new retail hotspot, residential landmark ORO Newstead, will rise as the tallest of its kind in the suburb, adding a fresh layer of buzz to the Little Italy mixed-use precinct.

Set to start construction later this month, ORO will be the first residential offering to take shape within Little Italy, comprised of 197 considered residences, ranging from generous one- to five-bedroom apartments, to sub-penthouses, and penthouses. Designed as the pinnacle of flexible urban living, the development will adapt seamlessly to every stage of life – from downsizing empty-nesters and growing families to design-driven young professionals.

Bringing a sense of community to sophisticated urban living on Longland Street, ORO, projected to open in 2029, marks the latest undertaking in the Panettiere family’s long history in construction and residential development across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

ORO Newstead

A design destination

Named after the Italian word for gold, ORO Newstead will reflect this winning mentality through every detail of its design.

Drawing on European influences and grounded in Newstead’s urban context, the tower will showcase sculptural silhouettes, a warm, refined colour palette and signature travertine-inspired finishes. The result will no doubt be a certified design destination for Longland Street, defined by generous glazing and light-filled interiors, with expansive views across the city and surrounding districts.

Inside the residences, discover timeless restraint, effortlessly designed by Interiors by Carr. Each home features full-height windows, generous living zones and an effortless indoor–outdoor flow that feels considered, calm and contemporary.

Drawing on European influences grounded by Newstead’s urban context, the tower itself will showcase sculptural silhouettes, a warm colour palette, and signature travertine-inspired finishes. The result will offer Longland Street a certified design destination with generous glazing – a light-filled oasis complete with expansive views across the city and surrounding districts.

ORO Newstead

Wellness’ new address

In the heart of Brisbane’s wellness district, residents of ORO will also have access to a multi-storey, private fitness and lifestyle offering. Club ORO’s amenities include a heated rooftop pool with dining areas and city views, an indoor heated pool with hot and cold plunge zones, a gym alongside Pilates and yoga spaces, as well as sauna, steam and salt therapy rooms.

Not to mention, Club ORO members will enjoy access to private dining facilities and lounges, co-working spaces, podcast rooms, and a dedicated guest suite (talk about the total package).

ORO Newstead

All in all, Panettiere Developments’ owner, Max Panettiere, puts it best himself, saying the Little Italy and ORO Newstead development will be the pinnacle of “how people want to live in Brisbane today.” Sleek design, a wellness hub, and located a hop, skip, and a jump from a vibrant food scene – what more could a sophisticated Brisbanite want?
