A Sweet New Hungarian Patisserie Arrives In West Village
Don’t flake on this one
If cake and coffee are a vital pairing on your personal food pyramid, West Village’s newest bakery demands your immediate attention.
Renowned family business Kürtősh has opened its first store in the Sunshine State, bringing along its famous Hungarian delights. The humble bakery began after owner Ben Haikin and his brother travelled to Hungary to learn the art of making kürtőskalács – a tube-shaped pastry commonly known as chimney cakes that combines a caramelised crunch with soft, mouth-watering pastry. They returned with a 70-year-old recipe from a Hungarian man who custom-built ovens in the local cafes, which has now become a coveted treat in Kürtősh’s eight nationwide locations.
Alongside kürtőskalács, Kürtősh serves handmade pastries, cakes, and loaves, using the most premium ingredients and inspired by fond memories spent cooking with loved ones. The menu of small bites and decadent dishes changes constantly, with slab cakes sold by the weight and gluten-free options served with a twist, to ensure all sweet tooths are sorted.
Kürtősh is now open in West Village.
