There’s nothing better than a good ol’ fashioned sanga, and Brisbane has been known to sling some seriously good ones. While there’s no shortage of mouthwateringly excellent sandwich spots across the city (find our favourites here), a new player is about to join the mix – and from the sounds of it, it’s set to be a very welcome addition.
Opening soon in Gasworks Plaza
Coming soon to Gasworks Plaza is Kosta’s Takeaway: a cult-favourite sandwich shop founded in 2021 that has already built a loyal following with four locations around Sydney. The Brisbane opening marks the brand’s first venture outside New South Wales, giving us locals a taste of what southern fans have been lining up for.
Positioned in the heart of Newstead, the newcomer feels perfectly suited to the grab-and-go offerings of the area – ideal for quick fix lunches, post-gym refuels, or casual weekend bites.
What’s on the menu at Kosta’s Takeaway?
Sandwiches are, of course, the main event. Expect elevated takes on the classics: golden chicken schnitty sandwiches, gooey tuna melts, crispy fish burgers, and other comfort-food staples done right. The philosophy at Kosta’s is inspired by the Ancient Greek adage that happiness can be found in life’s simplest pleasures, and so, Kosta’s prioritises familiar combinations executed with precision, quality ingredients, and a chef-led approach that you can taste in every bite.
Alongside the headline acts, the menu will feature a tight selection of sides (think house salads and potato scallops), a handful of wraps for those wanting something lighter, coffee courtesy of Canberra roaster Ona, and specialty drinks to complete the takeaway experience. It’s deliberately no-frills: just simple food done right.
Adding extra buzz to the already-hyped opening is the addition of consultant chef Adam Wolfers, former executive chef at Gerard’s and current group chef at Anyday, who is working with the team on exclusive Brisbane-only menu items. His involvement suggests a few thoughtful twists to the menu, tailored specifically to the city’s tastes, rather than a copy-and-paste of the Sydney offering.
So, if the Sydney shops are anything to go by, expect queues and cravings galore once Kosta’s Takeaway opens up shop later this month. Safe to say: Brisbane’s sandwich game is about to get even stronger.
