Brisbane’s Best Colourists | 2015 Edit

We thought it was time for a 2015 touch-up, with our latest revamp of Brisbane’s best colourists.

By Eveline Fielding | 28th October 2015

Considering you’re supposed to touch-up your hair colour at least every six weeks, we feel it’s more than time to revamp our list for Brisbane’s best colourists.

We’ve given our lists from yesteryear a fresh new look, because whether it’s a colour correction, highlights, regrowth treatment or the whole shebang, when it comes to hair colour, we believe in ditching the DIY and embracing the mantra of TYS.

Because why risk the health and appearance of your hair in the hands of anyone other than trained and trendy professionals? All we know is that, when it comes to colouring, the best way to treat yo’ self is to trust yo’ salon, and don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with our 2015 edition of Brisbane’s best colourists.

Omnific Hair

Located in East Brisbane, Omnific Hair is a delightful hidden nook of a hairdresser, giving you top-grade colour and consistency all in the comfort of creative director and stylist Mel’s home salon. Mel frequently colours her own hair to perfection, giving you a sneak peek of the quality and vibrancy she’ll apply to your own luscious locks. With 22 years of industry experience, a professional, cosy salon, a healthy dose of chatter and cruelty-free, nourishing products from De Lorenzo, you know you’re in caring and capable hands.

Horse Meat Disco Salon – Styler-approved!

Our own Style journo Hannah is a fan of this bizarrely-named salon, who love livening up locks with all colours of the rainbow, whether it’s balayage, creamy blonde, rich brunette, copper or pink! Throw any colour your want at these guys, because when a salon can give you well-styled, beautifully-coloured actual yellow hair, they can pretty much do anything.

Fluid the Color Salon

Fluid the Color Salon is fantastic for, you guessed it, fluidly-coloured hair. These hairdressers like to capitalise on your natural beauty by colouring with subtle tones to suit your eyes, face and personal style. With a range of colouring services including colour gloss, balayage, colour correction and awesome deep conditioning treatments, their moderate prices are just the cherry on top!

Butterworth & Co.

We know what you’re thinking: shut up about Butterworth & Co. already! WE CAN’T. They’re that good. We’ve already praised them for their blonde colouring capacities, but on top of that they’ve got a well-kept blog full of hair and beauty tips, and an extensive list of beauty treatments and facials to keep you feeling #blessed.

Kelly Elle Salon

Every woman knows great hair doesn’t happen by chance; it all comes down to a carefully-selected appointment! Kelly Elle Salon in Greenslopes specialises in tricky colour changes, such as balayage, making ash blonde blend into your roots and mastering the transition from brunette to blonde within multiple visits. They joke on their Facebook that there’s no magical way to achieve difficult looks/results in just one visit to a hairdresser, unless you want to take your hair home in a bag. And we know there’s definitely some truth in that. We’ve unfortunately learnt from experience.

Mi Color

Have you been to an average salon and gotten the dye-job from hell? Never fear. Just let Mi Color’s expert colour technicians guide you through their vibrant Paddington salon and work their magic. As well as being the SES for your emergency colour correction needs, Mi Color pride themselves on giving you a careful individual colour analysis to ensure perfection, using a range of top-quality products including Olaplex, Curaplex and ammonia-free colours.

Indigo Cut and Colour

If you’re looking for a cut and colour along with a friendly chat and fantastic long-term hair-care tips, come to the Indigo girls (the Wishart hairdressers, not the hippie band… although we’re sure they’re nice too). Along with a welcoming atmosphere, these talented technicians love a challenge, colouring any length and any texture, with any colour.

Revolution Hairdressing

We simply couldn’t leave these guys off the list. With decades of high-end industry experience from the likes of Toni & Guy, Vidal Sassoon and Kevin Murphy, a bevy of national awards including 2014 Queensland Hairdresser of the Year and a finalist position for the Australian Creative Colourist category, as well as an extremely loyal following from many of our lovely Style readers, it’s no wonder we’ve listed them time and time again as one of Brisbane’s best salons. Whether you’re just looking for a touch-up or you’re a colouring virgin, you’ll always be taken care of at Revolution.

When we think colourists, Tigerlamb is always on the tip of our tongue. Want to overhaul your look? Just want to touch up your tresses? These guys are your go-to; they can give you expert, friendly advice on what will suit you and makeover your locks to pure perfection. Their website pretty much says it like it is: “Because fabulous hair is the only option.” We think so too!
