Looking after your skin from an early age is vital! When we’re young, we think we’re invincible or that we have years ahead of us until these concerns will need attention.
As we age, we lose our natural collagen production and elastic tissue (which helps the skin stay young and healthy) at about one to two per cent each year. As a result, the skin gets thicker and rougher, and wrinkles will then start to appear. There’s no way around it. However, there are ways to slow down this process.
1. Wear sunscreen – daily
Exposure to the sun and UV rays is a surefire way to speed up the aging process, making it your skin’s arch nemesis. While you do need to get some sun exposure for your daily dose of vitamin D, you also need to protect yourself if you want to slow down the aging process and avoid sun-related skin problems. Wear sunscreen with an SPF rating of 30 or higher, even if you’re not lounging on the beach; a casual backyard barbecue or afternoon walk could still do some serious damage.
2. Drink wine (in moderation!)
Did you know that red wine and grapes have powerful antioxidants? It’s called Resveratrol and it can help fight the aging process in some ways. On top of that, it will lower the odds of getting cancer and a few types of heart diseases.
3. Eat clean and colourful
Another great way to combat the aging process is to eat as healthily as possible. It’s time to finally ditch the oily fast food for good and get some colourful vegetables on your plate! There’s a direct link between antioxidants and fewer wrinkles, with zinc, beta-Carotene and vitamin C helping to prevent and slow down macular degeneration.
If you’re thinking that you’re too young to worry about these anti-aging tips: you're not. Start taking preventative measures today to avoid having to deal with these issues in the long-run.
