It’s the ‘c’ word that makes women of all ages recoil in disgust. The one that sneaks up on you when you least expect it and shocks you with its presence. I’m talking, of course, about cellulite.
It’s an age-old problem that affects just about every woman in her day-to-day life. It can dictate the length of your skirt, the thickness of the fabric you’ll wear, and even the way you sit! (A girlfriend of mine recently re-enacted a scenario she’d experienced on a date, recounting the way in which she’d sat on the couch so the skin surrounding her thighs was totally taut.)
Paparazzi flock to find it on our celebrity idols to prove that they too battle with these unavoidable dimples of doom. Up to 90 per cent of women will be affected by cellulite at some point in their lives, and the cosmetic condition doesn’t discriminate – you can have cellulite at size 6 or size 16.
We’re often told there’s not a whole lot we can do about it, but technology is constantly evolving in a bid to combat the battle of the bulge.
Ella Bache Myer Centre Brisbane has acquired some of the latest technology to tone, sculpt and contour your body, focusing particularly on those places where it seems the fat just won’t budge.
I trialled a full eight-session course of the non-invasive Lipomassage treatment and was thrilled with the visible results. The treatment itself requires you to wear a definitely-not-sexy full body stocking, which I only ever referred to as ‘the space suit.’ You receive your space suit on your first appointment and bring it with you to each treatment. This sheer compression garment isn’t what I’d call flattering and leaves little to the imagination, so luckily you don’t have to leave the treatment room with it on!
In the initial consultation, you’re able to chat with your therapist to talk about your current lifestyle habits, goals and problem areas. Your therapist will also take a few pictures of you, and the advanced technology will recommend a treatment plan specific to your body shape.
To get a feel for the actual treatment, you can check out this vintage Today Tonight segment. Hello, Sam Armitage. The Ella Baché treatment rooms, however, are modern, beautiful and relaxing.
The Lipomassage uses a series of rollers, which glide over your body, massaging the fat to break it down. I’d scared myself into believing this would be a hideously painful experience and to be honest, I really wasn’t looking forward to it.
But, I was pleasantly surprised and actually found the treatments really relaxing – especially the sensation of the massage. The intensity of the pressure is adjustable, so you can ask to turn it down if you’re experiencing any discomfort. I also loved my bi-weekly chats with my friendly beauty therapist, Kerry, who was just as excited for my results as I was.
About half way through (at the two-week mark) I started to notice a visible difference in the appearance on the cellulite on the back of my legs, and the fat on my hips. On completion of the course, I’d also managed to lose about 2.5 inches from my waist, stomach, hips and thighs.
I’m not usually a big believer in quick fixes, but I received my last treatment a few weeks ago and the results have stuck around. If cellulite is a problem for you, I’d highly recommend giving a full course of the treatments a go.
Although it is advised that you team your treatment plan with diet and exercise, it’s a non-invasive procedure that truly does work with minimal effort. Unfortunately, I was battling some hormone issues at the time of my treatments, and I think I could have received even greater results if this wasn’t the case. Still, I was happy with the results and would definitely undergo a second round of the Lipomassage without hesitation.
