I have to admit, I was skeptical when I first started experimenting with natural beauty products. Magazines have spent SO long telling us that we need all manner of science-y sounding products to make our skin glow. So when brands come along claiming to fix all our problem areas using mostly botanical extracts, we're all like, “Wha? How?”
But give nature a chance! There are loads of natural, vegan or organic products hitting the market that are leaving their chemical cousins in their dust. Here are our picks for the April Beauty Edit
Estelle & Thild Intense Moisture Night Cream $55, Sephora
When you get to a certain age (and I'm not going to mention what that age is because DISCRETION, people!), a night cream is a must. To be honest, I've been night-creaming preventatively since my early 20s. This one is currently my favourite formula because it's super lightweight, but does all the heavy lifting while you're snug in your bed. I wake up with a glow every darn morning.
Edible Beauty Soothing Balm $55 and Citrus Rhapsody Toner $45, Sephora
Edible Beauty products are promoted as being SO natural you can literally eat them. But don't… that would be such a waste of products that are REALLY good for your skin. Most toners have a bit of a sting in them, but this one is soothing with a delightful scent. Best part? It doesn't feel like it's stripping my skin of natural oils. The soothing balm is my new favourite product. Whenever my skin is a bit cranky (dry, flaking, sunburned, suffering from me having a bit of a picking attack) this balm immediately calms the redness and helps repair my skin. It's pretty much botanical magic.
Josie Maran Cosmetics Pure Argan Milk $89, Mecca
“Argan MILK?” I hear you say. “I've only just heard of argan oil, what the heck is argan milk?” Well, dear Stylers, let me tell you: it's an intensive moisturising treatment that uses oil, but won't leave your skin greasy. It's the epitome of natural beauty and leaves your skin naturally lighter and brighter. Magic!
RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek $55, Mecca
I'm constantly in trouble for having too many beauty products, so two-in-one space savers are LIFE savers. Seriously, anything that gives me more room in my overflowing makeup bag is a winner. Not only is the Lip2Cheek a two-in-one product, it also has a two-for-one function; it adds lip colour while also hydrating the skin. So REALLY it's kind of FOUR-in-one, which makes it excellent value as well.
Persian Rose and Argan Extract Hand Cream $27.95, Grown Alchemist
Ugh, (dehydrated) hands up whose work air-con has their hands feeling all dry and yuck? Grown Alchemist hand cream is great for counteracting crappy office air. The cream has a lush feel and is instantly absorbed, so no greasy fingers smearing the keyboard.
Origins Drink Up Hydrating Lip Balm $24, Mecca
When it comes to natural, this balm is brimming with so many botanical products it feels like we should just be able to pluck the tube right from the tree. Avocado and apricot kernel oils quench your lips' thirst, then orange peel, wheat germ and barley help protect against chapped yuckiness. It glides on smooth with just a splash of colour to rehydrate dry lips.
100% Natural Jojoba Lip Balm $14.95, The Jojoba Company
Winter is coming, and if you wanna avoid flaky chapped lips you gotta start moisturising those babies now. If you want to go natural, you can't get more natural than The Jojoba Company. This lip balm combines jojoba, Kakadu plum oil and coconut oil to give your pout the big drink it needs to stay plump and hydrated. It's 100 per cent vegan, and uses a totally natural alternative to beeswax to makes your lips feel all satiny.
