9 Simple Beauty Tricks For Friday Afternoon Drinks

So quick and easy, you can do them at your desk.

It’s Friday afternoon and the weekend is calling your name. Afternoon drinks are just 20 minutes away, and your makeup is in dire need of a touch-up. While it’s tempting to wipe it all off and start again, there is simply no need. These simple beauty tricks will refresh your look and keep you going well into the night.

No matter how much you powder, bake, and set your concealer, it’s never going to look perfect at the end of a busy day. And while it may seem like a good idea to lather on an extra layer in the afternoon, it will only make your under-eyes look heavier and more tired. Try tapping a light coloured, lightweight concealer, such as the Bare Minerals Stroke of Light Eye Brightener, onto the back of your hand, and then applying it gently with your index finger. While it won’t offer a lot of coverage, it will brighten up the area, making you look fresh and awake.

Brow Gel

Brow gel is literally a lifesaver, and if you don’t have some in your purse right now then go out and get some. Like, right now. Applying a few coats of Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper through those unruly caterpillars is an easy way to get your face ready for an afternoon of mingling. Brush up your hairs towards the front of the brow to give them a fuller appearance, and then smooth down the ends to keep those babies in place all night long.

Cream Blush

A flush of colour to your cheeks will always boost your confidence and make you feel awake and ready for the night ahead. A cream blush is perfect for this, as it can easily be applied with your fingers and will sit nicely over whatever makeup is currently on your face. A NARS Multiple is a great product to use, adding both colour and a glow to your entire cheek with just a few quick taps. If you’ve forgotten your lippy, pop some on your lips as well to make them look plump and juicy.

Bareminerals Stroke of Light Eye Brightener $33.00; Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper $45.00; Josie Maran Cosmetics Argan Enlightenment Illuminising Wand $41.00; NARS The Multiple in Na Pali Coast $57.00

Cream highlighter

Similar to cream blush, applying some cream highlighter to the high points of your face will lift your look, giving the appearance you’ve reapplied your entire face. The Josie Maran Cosmetics Argan Enlightenment Illuminising Wand gives a golden glow to your skin, but without making you look sweaty. Warm the product up on your index finger, and apply to the tops of your cheekbones, above your brows, down the bridge of your nose, onto your cupid’s bow, and to the inner corners of your eyes. You’ll be sparkling in all the right places.

A sultry dark eye will add that little extra somethin’ somethin’ to your Friday afternoon look, easily taking you from daytime chic to nighttime glam. Apply a quick through strokes to both your upper and lower waterline, smudging it through to hide those specks of mascara that have dropped onto your face throughout the day. The Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner is great for this, as it comes in a variety of colours and is guaranteed to stay put.

Bright lipstick

When all else fails, you can always rely on an overly bright lip colour to distract from anything else that’s happening on your face. Whether it’s a sparkling coral, a bright red, or a fuchsia pink like this one from MAC Cosmetics, a well-applied lip will always give a refresh to your day-old makeup. To take it that one step further, apply a gloss, such as the Mecca Max Gloss Boss Lip Gloss, over the top to add some shine.

Setting spray

If you only have time for one of these steps, this is the one you should take. Applying a layer of setting spray to your face will lock in what’s already there, but take away that cakey feeling makeup gives you after being on your face all day. You can also dab away any lines or creases that have formed while it’s still drying, and smooth down any brow hairs that have come loose. The Mario Badescu Facial Spray is perfect for this, with its refreshing scent and hydrating ingredients. Keep the mini bottle in your handbag for bathroom touch-ups throughout the night.

Stile Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Damsel $32.00; Mecca Max Gloss Boss Lip Gloss in Just Peachy $18.00; M·A·C Cosmetics Lipstick in Dangerous $36.00; Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe, Herbs & Rosewater $10.00; ASI Radiant Cream Cleanser $54.95

Once the night is over and you make your way home, remember the golden rule: cleanse your skin before going to sleep! Using a potent cosmeceutical cleanser, such as the Radiant Cream Cleanser from Australian Skin Institute, ensures that you remove all makeup, impurities and excess oils. Full of skin-loving ingredients, it's perfect for anyone with dry or sensitive skin because it's calming and healing. With vitamin E to help fight breakouts and jojoba oils to replenish hydration, it’s exactly what your skin needs after an evening on rosé!

Eye pads

If you’re savvy enough to think ahead, applying anti-wrinkle pads to your skin the night before can be an easy way to ensure your skin is smooth and plump come Friday arvo. Wrinkles Schminkles are non-invasive, age-defying silicone pads that target and treat wrinkles and fine lines overnight. Giving a whole new meaning to beauty sleep, these silicone pads are designed to be used as you sleep, so you wake up looking and feeling your best. And honestly, we’re fans of anything that involves getting a bit of shut-eye.
