I know, it’s harder than it seems. But, stick with us and we’ll show you all the tips and tricks to pull off a ‘woke up like this’ no-makeup, makeup look.
I would love to tell you to forget the foundation all together. But, its hard out here for a girl with patchy skin. So, if you too are like me with crazy skin, then you may feel like using a little something-something to enhance your natural features.
So, for the girlies confident enough to pull off no foundation, props to you amazing ladies! But for the rest looking to achieve a more even complexion, I would recommend Nude by Natures Sheer Glow BB cream ($29.95). This baby works like perfection, conveniently helping patchy skin even out, seriously decreasing redness to leave you with a flawless luminous finish. Sheer glow is a potion made up of SPF 8 and Aloe Vera which works great as an anti-inflammatory agent. It also contains active natural ingredients such as Australian Kakadu Plum and Vitamin C. Oh and just to prove I’m not the only one in love, Nude by Natures Sheer Glow BB Cream was this year’s winner of the Beauty Glosscar Awards for the best new skin perfecter. Wanna know the added bonus? This bad boy is a cruelty free product, and because it’s a mineral cream, it’s not bad for your skin! Yay, guilt free makeup!
Rule of thumb, ditch all powders. The point of a no-makeup look is to look like you have woken up after a long nap with dewy glowing skin. So, skip on the powders altogether. But again, if you are still like me and you worry about your face getting too oily, never leave the house without your M.A.C patented blot film ($21.00). These tiny little papers are bass ass, instantly absorbing all oils on the skin without removing or smudging your foundation.
Like I said, avoid powders at all cost! Swap your powder blush for a dewy cream like NYX Cream Blush ($6.00). If you are new to cream blushes, the best way to apply is with your brush in stippling motions. Any excess product can be blended with a beauty blender. It’s important to begin application on the apple of your cheeks, transitioning upwards to the hairline as you go along.
If you are worried that these creamy products will cause your skin to break out in tears of oil, then you can’t hurt to use a mattifying primer as step one. MECCA MAX mattifying primer ($20.00) is bound to keep your thick greasy glow at bay.
For the ladies, out there who want to rock the al natural brow, then the M.A.C Clear Brow Setter ($28.00) is the product for you. This brush-on jelly is perfect to keep brows in place all day. This can be used on its own or over the top of filled in brows. For the ladies who feel they need to breathe a little life into their brows, try the M.A.C Pro long-wear waterproof brow setter ($28.00). Be sure to brush off excess product from the spoolie, keeping product application to a minimum for the no-makeup look.
To polish off the barely-there makeup look, a simple eyelash curl can be enough for some. But for the ladies after a little definition, Sephora’s V for Volume mascara ($15) is the way to go. For a more natural look, choose a colour that most suits your brows. Luckily Sephora stocks this baby in a range of colours! Just don’t go overboard on application, two layers is recommended to achieve the optimum no-makeup look.
Lastly, you want to give your lips a little natural pop of colour and moisture. Avoiding thick lip pigments such as most lipsticks and lip-glosses is key in the no-makeup look. Choosing a product that offers a natural lip stain or tint will be your new best friend. Clinique Chubby Sticks ($36) or HURRAW! Tinted Balm ($5.75) is perfect to help you achieve this. Just make sure you go for colours that are only a shade or two darker than your skin colour.
