From stealing the show on The Voice and being half the brains behind ‘the little red company’, which made original cabarets Rumour Has It: Sixty Minutes Inside Adele and Wrecking Ball, the spotlight is very much on. We nabbed some time with her offstage to have a chat at Brooklyn Beauty Bar in James Street.

You seem to be everywhere at the moment Naomi. Tell us what you’ve been up to and what’s coming up.
I’m currently touring Australia with my show Lady Beatle, performing at 32 venues across the country. It’s been a huge success and I absolutely love performing all the fab Beatles songs and breathing new life into iconic music that people have loved for decades. I’ll be doing that until November and then will head back home to Brisbane to do my show, Christmas Actually, at La Boite Theatre Company. My partner Luke Kennedy is also in the show, and it’s always an absolute joy for us to perform together, at any time, but particularly at Christmas.
It’s been a huge year for you, what have the highlights been?
Gosh, now that I think about it, it has been a massive year! I kicked off the year as the title role in Sweet Charity at Brisbane Powerhouse, which was definitely a career highlight. Becoming the first female artist to record a duet with The Ten Tenors and joining them on their Australian tour was also incredible. I also got to tour nationally with The Good Room and their amazing show I Want To Know What Love Is, and perform in the Australian premiere of Yank! in July. I have been so lucky this year to have worked with beautiful, talented groups of people and I couldn’t be happier (or more tired!). Bringing Lady Beatle back to La Boite for a return season was really special, too.
Does all the travel and stage make-up play havoc with your skin?
Oh, absolutely. Whenever I’m in Brisbane I come to Brooklyn Beauty Bar for them to weave their magic with a facial, and while I’m here I also have a mani and pedi. It’s the perfect way to catch up with my girlfriends too; the trouble with travelling so much for performances is that it is really hard to spend time with your pals, so this is a great place for us to get our nails done together, have a cocktail or two and catch up on all the gossip!

Tell us a little more about Christmas Actually, can we get tickets yet?
Watching Love Actually every year is a tradition in my house, as I’m sure it is for so many others. The soundtrack is incredible – music by Joni Mitchell, Mariah Carey, The Beach Boys, Norah Jones, The Beatles – so it just made sense to create a live music experience for fans of the film. I describe this show to people as a Christmas cuddle – it’s such a feel-good night out and the ultimate office Christmas party! Grab your friends, make a night of it and kick your silly season off in style! Tickets are already on sale and selling extremely quickly, so get in quick. We open on November 27 at La Boite Theatre Company, before taking the show to Sydney Opera House straight after the Brisbane season.
Keep an eye out for Naomi and her next move!
