We’ve tried everything in our quest for a perfect smile, from whitening strips and LED lights to baking soda and whitening toothpaste, and we still don’t possess that megawatt grin our teenage torment with orthodontics deserves. If this has taught us anything, it’s that there’s no one way to perfect your smile—each method presents its own unique set of pros and cons.
In lieu of any further trial and error, we decided to go straight to the experts to find out once and for all how celebs get those stunningly glowy grins that look like they’ve had a real-life Insta filter slapped across their mouth. As it turns out, the secret to pearly whites and a perfect smile is more than just cutting down on red wine and coffee: its teeth veneers!
Keen to learn more, we ventured out to Brisbane’s urban epicentre, West End, to sit down with Dr Hieu Le in his state-of-the-art dental studio, Le Tooth, to learn a little more about the cosmetic surgery trend A-listers everywhere are obsessed with. From why you need them through to how to care for them, here’s everything you need to know about veneers (and why you shouldn’t sweat that next cup of coffee).
Veneers aren’t the same as a simple teeth-whitening treatment. They are more of an investment. The main thing Dr Le explains is how versatile veneers are. “If you’re unhappy with the shape, colour or alignment of your teeth, they can all be altered and addressed with porcelain veneers.” Veneers also boast an effortlessly natural look, while working to prevent any further damage to your teeth. While you might think veneers are only used for aesthetic purposes, that’s actually not true. Veneers can also be used to protect heavily worn down and sensitive teeth, at the same time recreating the desired smile you’re chasing. Plus, unlike other teeth whitening methods, porcelain veneers are resistant to staining! Meaning you don’t need to feel too guilty about enjoying your morning coffee.
If the thought of having porcelain veneers applied to your teeth makes you feel a little nervous, you wouldn’t be the first client Dr Le has had to reassure about the process. As with any cosmetic procedure, you need to ensure you are speaking to a trusted professional who specialises in that particular treatment. “You want to make sure you are working with a doctor you trust and who understands what you are trying to achieve. We offer a complimentary smile design consultation so that you can discuss any concerns you may have as well as your ideal outcome.” At this consultation, Dr Le will develop for you a treatment plan that is tailored to your exact needs. “The preparation is simple and pain-free. At times, initial consult to the finished product might only be a matter of days!”
One of the great things about veneers is that they don’t require expensive products and intense effort to maintain and care for. Dr Le says, “Patients can maintain their new smile by practising great home care with a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste and by attending their regular preventative check-ups to ensure their dental health is at it’s best.”
