Let’s be honest: we put our hair through a lot of stress. Bleaching it balayage for summer; straightening, curling or blow-drying it every other day; over-doing the dry shampoo; pull it back into tight hairstyles – all of these can cause long-lasting damage to our hair. While we can cut back on some of these things, it’s important to maintain a healthy diet with nourishing vitamins and minerals. While foods like avocados, walnuts, dark chocolate and carrots are all beneficial for our locks, it would be great if there were some way to condense all the benefits of these foods into one easy-to-manage tablet. Oh wait, there is! Just like the three-course-meal-gum in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Antidote Hair Enhancer condenses a variety of key ingredients that can supplement your diet and help promote healthy hair growth.

We reached out to one of our favourite hairdressers, Trish Spessa of Fluid The Color Salon, to learn more about this holy-grail beauty supplement that she’s seen completely revitalise the locks of many clients. Scroll on to discover more!

Whether you’re growing out bangs, dreaming of waist-long locks or just looking to change your look, growing hair even just one inch can be a frustrating exercise in patience. Hair growth and health can be affected by a variety of factors. Some of the most common ones are pregnancy, menopause, weight loss, nutrition and, of course, styling habits (such as hair colouring, heat tools and brushes). Certain things like investing in good-quality brushes, using nourishing hair colouring products, minimising the frequency of heat styling and giving your hair regular breaks throughout the week can all help improve the health and quality of your hair, but sometimes it’s not enough. That’s where our secret weapon comes in…

It’s important to give your hair the nutrients it needs to grow strong, and not just rely on a weekly or fortnightly hair mask (although it doesn’t hurt). Antidote Hair Enhancer is an Australian-made vitamin that, as Trish explains, “provides a healthy beneficial solution for those that may be suffering hair loss, slow growing hair or scalp irritations.”

As a salon-only nutritional formula, Antidote has nine key ingredients to encourage healthy, thick and nourished hair growth. These include Vitamin B7, Vitamin B2, Vitamin C, Iron and more.

As Trish explains, “It strengthens your hair from the inside by supporting and replenishing you with all the vital nutrients required for optimal hair growth. It helps to boost your overall immunity which improves the quality of your hair cycle and it revitalises dull, weaken and brittle hair. Oh and its fantastic for healthy scalps too!”

In addition to using Antidote, there are plenty of things you can do to encourage healthy, thick hair growth. First off, make sure you’re filling your body with plenty of vitamins and nutrients.

Foods rich in fatty acids (such as avocados) are important for minimising breakage, so go ahead and order an extra side of guacamole when you next get nachos. Omega-3 rich foods such as eggs and salmon help keep your strands strong and less prone to breakage, while zinc-rich foods such as dark chocolate and oysters can help stimulate oxygen and blood flow to the scalp thereby minimising hair loss.

It’s also important to limit how often you styled your hair with heat tools (don’t forget your Number 4 Super Comb & Protect heat protectant!) and to supplement all of this with weekly deep treatments to help nourish and strengthen your hair. We particularly love Number 4 Reconstructing Masque. Catch up with your hair stylist every 8 weeks to get a trim and keep split ends under control, and massage your scalp every other night.
