Welcome to The Wing, NYC. Part shared workspace, part social club, this girls-only New York penthouse is a cross between a hot desk hub and a first-class airport lounge

Co-founded by former political press aide (and Lena Dunham’s best friend) Audrey Gelman, The Wing aims to be a home base for busy Manhattan women.

At The Wing, you can charge your phone, take a shower, breastfeed, get a blow-dry, hold a meeting, grab a pick-me-up from the café, store luggage and enjoy the bottomless wi-fi.

The showers and glam stations are stocked with products by Aesop, Ouai Haircare and Glossier, and there are hair dryers and straighteners on hand.

The walls are filled with art (by female artists), and the library stocked with books (by female authors). The interior design is marked by millennial pink accents, dove grey couches, and hanging potted plants.

The night-time talks allow for networking and social engagement opportunities for the 400-odd members. Senators drop by to speak, there is a crossword crash course, and Wall Street analysts hold talks on investing. Members can learn how to braid hair, dance like Beyoncé, or read tarot cards.

The current members list features rappers, florists, mothers, engineers, writers, models and doctors. High-profile additions include Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine, Into the Gloss CEO Emily Weiss, and fashion blogger and founder of Rookie magazine Tavi Gevinson.

Sounds like a dream, right? For the women of New York City, it’s reality. For the women of Brisbane… well, we may be waiting a little while longer. But the next time you’re applying makeup while stuck in traffic on Coronation Drive, or busted trying to change your outfit in the back of your car, just know that this something like The Wing NYC may not be too far off.
