Harsh truth: I don’t have much selfie game at all. If slapping a filter on it doesn’t fix things then I’m all out of ideas.
So when the Style office stumbled upon a couple of new selfie game-changing apps, I jumped at the chance to try them.
If you search Icon8 on Facebook, you can give this app a crack before downloading it. Simply send them a photo in Messenger and then pick a filter and BAM! Your photo now has artistic flair.
There are eight filters to choose from, with more available on the app and they release a new filter every other day. You can check out other people’s works of art on the app’s Instagram account. I decided to use a photo from a recent trip to Sydney and give it the Icon8 treatment. With the Anime filter, the image became soft and dreamy, with a nice watercolour effect.
Prisma promises to turn your memories into artwork. With a ton of different filters, there’s something for everyone. And, much like Icon8, with just one click your selfie goes from meh to mega. The Prisma Instagram is full of inspiration.
Everyone who knows me knows I love colour – with bright pink hair and a penchant for wearing neon lipsticks, I’m not exactly subtle about it. So for this image I decided to use a cocktail selfie and give it a painted canvas look using the Illegal Beauty filter. The filter greatly enhanced the colours in the photo, which I love. The brighter the better!
Overall both apps are super easy to use. They’re super similar at the moment, but Prisma gets my vote as it currently has more filters. For a bit of bespoke fun, they are definitely worth checking out.
