ASSASSIN’S CREED – JANUARY 1
Oh, sure. Just save a guy from execution and then teach him assassin moves from his ancestor. How could that possibly go wrong for you? Also, Fassbender. Delightful.
PASSENGERS – JANUARY 1
Two hibernation pods open 90 years early on a loooooong trip to a colony planet. Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt fight the problem with their good looks. With weapons like those at their disposal, how can they not win?
COLLATERAL BEAUTY – JANUARY 12
A man mourns the death of his daughter by writing letters to Love, Death and Time. He never expected to receive a response. Until his friends found a way to make Love, Death and Time come to life. Maybe that move is creepy and over-stepping a BUNCH of boundaries but it also results in a movie that’s basically guaranteed to have you sobbing like a baby.
JACKIE – JANUARY 12
The film follows Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis during her days as First Lady and her life after the assassination of her husband. Everyone agrees Natalie Portman is perfection and that’s all that matters. But seriously, is anyone surprised by how amazing she is?
LION – JANUARY 19
Dev Patel puts on the best Australian accent EVER. Do you know how hard it is for people to pull off our accent? What awards can he win? Nominate him for them immediately. If you don’t cry at least once in this movie you may not have a soul. I mean, I don’t make the rules but I think that’s what people are saying.
SPLIT – JANUARY 26
James McAvoy has come a long way since playing Mr Tumnus in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Now he’s playing a murderous killer with 23 different personalities and he’s kidnapping young girls on the orders of one of those personalities. You’ll probably want to sleep with the lights on after this.
LIVE BY NIGHT – JANUARY 26
Ben Affleck directs and stars in a movie where he no longer has to smile or feel joy. He seems pleased about it.
