Get ready to LOL, ROFL and LMFAO.
Comedy clubs may be one of the few things that Brisbane lacks an abundance of. Sometimes all we need is tear-enducing laughter to cure that hard week at work or a stressful one to come. Bring on the crow’s feet, we are not shying away from laughter. Not only is a good laugh as remedial as a therapy session, but it always ends up being a good core workout. That ticks enough boxes for us. Read on for our favourite live comedy venues in Brisbane for next time you’re in need of a chuckle!
The Flying Cock | Fortitude Valley
Once a month on Thursday the mighty Cock entertain us like no other can, yet again. For $5 out of your “I’m not going to buy a coffee today” stash, you get the opportunity to participate in The Great Debate. The Flying Cock have resailed the market potential for opinionated ladies and confident lads willing to put it all on the line for a night on the mic. The game objective is to convince the audience if they are for or against a random topic, whereby the funnier you are, the more love you get. With prizes to be won and an ego to be boosted, there is no better place for a laugh. And just when you thought it was all over, from 9pm onwards comes the stand-up acts for You’re Joking. With a different comedian every month, the jokes will be fresh and your laughs will get louder. Whether you’re all for the challenge or you’re just there for a gander, everyone will undoubtedly be left cackling – the beauty of improvisations. Let the games begin!

Brisbane Powerhouse | New Farm
Happy hour is our favourite hour. Friday night at-work drinks can schooch over because we’ve found the ultimate location that’s a touch further away than the office desk. Cheap jokes and free laughs are the Friday-go with free comedy on the Turbine Platform. Every. Single. Friday. Knockoff Fridays supported by Triple M are filled with local and national comedians, cracking jokes, bringing forth their best one-liners for your judgement and the most entertaining stories they’ve come across. And if that’s not enough, the last Friday of every month welcomes ImproMafia, Brisbane’s leading improvised theatre company that specialises in all things comedy. But leave the kids at home, these shows are rated M and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Big Fork Theatre | Paddington
Impro and Sketch Comedy is the speciality of the Big Fork Theatre. They are devoted to growing the improvisation and comedy community here in Brisbane, something we fully approve of. With regular shows, jams and classes on offer, they are all about the American style, with the Theatre’s founders trained in various comical institutions. Beginner improv classes will teach you all the fundamentals, introducing participants to the Theatre’s approach, to scenic improvisation! With no experience required, this class has caught our attention, with a little improv always coming in handy. But for those more interested in watching, Big Fork Friday’s have weekly live comedy going for $10 from 7.30pm, alongside other seasonal shows.
QPAC | South Brisbane
We always have our eyes open and our credit cards at-the-ready for some of the wittiest regular comedy shows that hit QPAC. With artists specifically collated from the funniest acts around the world, those that make it to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre have the tick of approval from us. For a guaranteed laugh, you can be assured that there is always a comedy show on the line-up for the upcoming months, with Barry Humphries: The Man Behind the Mask and “Big Boo”, aka Lea DeLaria, aka OITNB goddess, specifically getting us excited! Guaranteed is not better ending to a date night after dinner at Julius Pizzeria next door.
The Milk Factory | South Brisbane
A heritage pub is the perfect setting for head-reclining laughter shared with good mates. The Milk Factory is home to the celebrated Magic Mic event that’s guaranteed to be just as entertaining as Magic Mike. With free comedy nights every Sunday, it’s the perfect spot for a weekend gaff! Situated next to Cork and Chroma, we couldn’t think of a more seamless weekend than an afternoon of sipping and painting followed by a night of beers and chuckles next door. The comedy begins from 7.30pm, with a list of hilarious new artists every week, keeping the weekly wit both fresh and original.
Blute’s Bar | Fortitude Valley
Co-owners Jon Blute and Jesse Barbera appreciate a wholesome belly laugh. Blute’s Bar is the newest bar to hit the Brunswick Street mall, sporting old-school pub vibes and a serious appreciation for drinks. They aren’t afraid of the word basic, with their entire vibe focusing on 80s classic pub inspo, ensuring the best vibes. While focusing on live music and sporting code fixtures, they are also dabbling in the comedy scene, with Blute’s Comedy starting May off with a chuckle! Blute’s know that our weekends are busy and we sometimes need a mid-week break. Every Tuesday from 8pm, Blute’s Comedy is hosting the best comedians that will turn your mid-week Blues into Blute’s with free entry and drinks galore! We love the sounds of that!
