She describes herself as a free-spirited, girly version of Wes Anderson, but there is more to the creative behind the lens of Me Oh My Girl than meets the eye.
While studying journalism and PR, Charli began assisting on photo shoots between classes and quickly realised her passion for photography.
“I ended up working at a fashion label on their shoots as creative director, and then after that, I jumped into freelance photography to see how it went.” Charli says.
For three years, Charli has been working as a full-time freelance photographer and her cinematic, romantic and French-inspired creative direction and influence has captured the attention a long list of international luxury brands.
As a visual artist for the digital age, it’s no surprise that when it comes to tackling her many creative projects, Charli continues to push the boundaries and learn unique new skills to stay ahead of the game.
Last year Charli launched Me Oh My Girl films, which saw her explore the limits of her comfort zone. When asked how cinematography compares to her photography, Charli explains how she adores video work.
“Motion is incredibly time consuming, but I feel like you have an opportunity to tell bigger visual stories. Last year we shot a music video that ended up getting picked up by MTV for full rotation, so that was pretty rad!” She says.
On the back of a huge year, there is still no slowing down for Charli as she has gone back to her roots in photography and is planning to host her debut exhibition, AWOL next month.
“As a young girl attempting to navigate adulthood, I often feel particularly at war with myself and what it means to be a woman. AWOL explores the confusing world of youth and Identity.” Says Charli.
On Saturday 10th March, AWOL will see Albion’s French warehouse, Vielle Branche transform into a romantic military wonderland for one night only.
