Delicatessen, fashion, and fresh produce – our favourite way to spend the weekends!
Have we forgotten how versatile markets are? Farmers markets on Saturday and Sunday mornings are a great way to get out of soul-sucking supermarkets to pick up your weekly produce, whilst Friday and Saturday evening markets can be a fun family event or a super casual date night. What ever it is you’re after, there’s a market to fit your needs. Here are some of our favourite Brisbane markets!
Feeling peckish? The Boundary Street Night Markets is the ultimate foodie destination, with cuisines from all four-corners of the globe. Enjoy Malaysian Nasi Lemak, Transylvanian poffertjes, and Japanese dumplings. Add to the mix live music and art installations every Friday and Saturday night and you’ve got an easy, casual date night.
Jan Powers Farmers Markets are some of the most popular markets in Brisbane, with four locations around town: New Farm Powerhouse, Reddacliff Place in Brisbane City, Manly Harbour, and Mitchelton. If you love fresh farm produce and flowers, artisan breads and meats, and organic products, you can’t miss out on this farmers market co-operative!
The Mount Gravatt Marketta is the Southside’s answer to Eat Street, and if we are being honest, one of the most thriving and exciting markets in Brisbane. Held every Saturday night from 4pm-10pm, the Mount Gravatt Marketta hosts over 60 food stalls, flea market stalls, hand made goods, and live entertainment. If you’re after a family friendly evening (without hiking out to Hamilton) here’s the answer.
The OG of Brisbane markets, the Rocklea Markets and renowned for their selection of farm fresh produce stalls and flower stalls. Start your Saturday morning with organic fruit and vegetables, fresh meats and delicatessen goods, and beautiful bouquets straight from the farm. For unique, hidden treasures, the Discovery Markets on Sunday are the place you want to be, for a selection of stalls touting new and used items, vintage products, and antique collectables.
We love new clothes, but unfortunately, our credit card doesn’t. For a wardrobe upgrade that won’t break the bank, Suitcase Rummage is an absolute goldmine! Stroll the makeshift walkways searching for vintage finds, or set up your own stall and make an extra penny or two. The selection is always impressive, and it’s not uncommon to find some really special finds. They’re held in Brisbane the first and third Sunday of every month, but you’ll need to pre-register if you’d like to set up your own stall.
The Milton Markets are another suburban market bringing everything from gourmet food stalls and farm fresh produce, to hand-made artisanal goods. To tempt you further, there is also fresh barista-made coffee, live music and local designers. There’s no better way to spend a Sunday!
