Don’t miss these movie screenings under the stars.
As the weather warms up, we find ourselves taking every opportunity to be outside, whether it’s camping out in our favourite beer gardens, or discovering new outdoor adventures. With the return of summer, we are also excited about the open-air cinemas that are opening their doors and setting up the big screen for your outdoor viewing pleasure. From the latest blockbusters to iconic favourites, here’s a list of everywhere you can enjoy outdoor movies at Brisbane’s best open air cinemas.
American Express Open Air Cinemas | South Bank
Situated right on the river in the picturesque South Bank precinct, cinema-goers at American Express Open Air Cinemas can lay back, get cosy on a comfy lounger, enjoy a tipple or two, and enjoy the latest new movies under the stars. With Salts Meats Cheese and a bar on hand, you can tuck into charcuterie boards, cheese wheel pasta, and pizza while you enjoy your flick – all with a beer in hand! You can also add a plush lounger and furry blanket to your ticket purchase if you want to reealllyyyy relax in comfort.
Moonlight Cinemas | New Farm
If you’ve been living under a rock for the last couple of years and haven’t heard of the Moonlight Cinemas, allow me to completely shake up your summer plans. Moonlight Cinemas are the OG outdoor cinemas, hosted by Event Cinemas. Showcasing in a bunch of locations across Australia, Moonlight Cinemas show a diverse range of flicks including sing-a-long sessions and new releases. Their clever range of packages mean you can tailor the evening to your needs. Whether it’s the Connoisseur Lounge with reserved bean beds in prime locale, Gold Grass tickets that include a bean bed, premium location, and wait service to your set-up, or standard entry, you’ll be able to plan your night exactly how you want it. With a fully licensed bar onsite as well as a food truck, you’ve got everything you need for a killer night out. The 2017 Brisbane season will be commencing in December.
Limes Rooftop Bar & Cinema | Fortitude Valley
Limes is famous for their rooftop bar, hot-tub cinema, and killer parties. In previous years, Limes has hosted cinema nights twice a week with tickets only $15. Showing new releases as well as old favourites (Pulp Fiction, anyone?), you can choose to lounge on a beanbag or don your fave ‘kini and hang out in the hot tub. With pizza and drinks available from the bar, they’ve got everything you need. Keep up-to-date with their program and happenings online.
Yatala Drive-In | Yatala
Roll up and cuddle up at the Yatala Drive-In! Bring plush blankets, cuddly pillows, and good company, and enjoy all the latest releases in the comfort of your own car. With unbeatable old-school vibes that make us think of that scene from Grease, the Yatala Drive-In is one of Brisbane’s most iconic institutions. With back-to-back features every night of the week, as well as the occasional movie marathon (running from dusk to dawn!), this is the real deal! Make sure your radio or boombox can play FM frequencies and bring cash to purchase your ticket and snacks, as it is cash only.
