The best places in Brisbane to celebrate the hols.
The Christmas season can be a bit exhausting. From braving shopping centres for last minute shopping to having a to explain to five different family members what you’re doing with your life (“No Uncle Joe, creating digital content doesn’t mean I work for Google.”), the festive season can sometimes be more effort than it’s worth. If you need a drink or two to tide you over, whether you’re catching up with some mates over a brew or simply celebrating a well-earned break from work, here’s where to enjoy a drink this festive season.
Blackbird | CBD
This year, Blackbird will be open all season except for Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Join them on Christmas Eve for a last minute catch up with some friends. If you’re after somewhere to sport those pre-Christmas jitters, then Blackbird is your destination. Hit up the bar manager, Mark Pinnel, for their super exclusive rare spirits range, and thank the heavens that these award-winning bartenders are taking such good care of us over the festive season.
Treasury Brisbane | CBD
Another location to get your pre or post-Christmas fix, the Treasury is only closing on Christmas Day this year. Adorned in classic Christmas décor, it doesn’t get much more Christmassy than the Treasury’s cocktail lounge, Ryan’s on the Park; so head in here for a Christmas Eve tipple if you need a helping hand getting in the Christmas spirit. Plus, if you’re hitting up the city for some Boxing Day bargains you can pop in and enjoy a much-needed drink after escaping the crowds. Their espresso martinis go down a treat for those of you wanting to continue on with the Christmas party the next day.
Riverbar & Kitchen | CBD
Closed only on Christmas Day, this bar is perfect for a cheeky tipple this festive season, offering a prime location directly on the river – perfect to soak up some sunshine. Use their generous opening hours as an excuse to sample their new summer menu as you enjoy uninterrupted views of the Story Bridge. We couldn’t get more Aussie if we tried.
Little Big House | Southbank
Spend your time off at Brisbane’s newest bar, Little Big House. Having only opened at the end of November, Little Big House is open most of the festive season for all your drinking, dining and karaoke needs. On Christmas Eve they are hosting a true-blue Sunday session, topped off with the house-party vibes they are already famous for. Beware though – indulge a little too much and you might need a hair of the dog on Christmas Day!
Elephant Hotel | Fortitude Valley
The absolute legends at Elephant Hotel are staying open all festive season (excluding Christmas Day) to make sure the good vibes never end. With exposed brick, spray painted walls and a big open beer garden, the rustic atmosphere is a welcome break from the glitz and glam of Christmas trees. The Elephant Hotel has something on every night of the week, with live music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Catch up with friends on Boxing Day after those gruelling hours with family, or drag everyone along for an afternoon with tap-beers under the sun.
