Here’s everything you’ll be investing in this season.
After leaving school in 2011 with a passion for creativity, Brisbane jeweller Matilda Sinclair went on to complete several courses in silversmithing, stone setting and casting at the Brisbane Institute of Art.
Once she completed her hands-on studies, Matilda decided to turn her passion into a career and established her label Tilly Jewellery in July 2014.
Specialising in wearable, great quality, timeless fine jewellery, Matilda designs and hand makes all Tilly Jewellery pieces, which has seen her go on collaborate with one of Australia’s most popular brands.
As the interest in handmade products continues to grow, it’s clear that Tilly Jewellery pieces have become a status symbol for the forward-thinking, fashionable consumer who looks to invest in a product that is personal and unique.
We chat to Matilda about what inspires her and her latest collection ‘Take Me To Monaco’.
When did you first get into jewellery designing?
On leaving school back in 2011, I knew that I wanted to do something in the creative arts field. I won the prize for my art major in my final year of school and that ignited my passion for creativity. Silversmithing & jewellery design was the avenue that I decided to take.
Your brand has its own distinct look and vibe. What inspires your creativity most?
Past travels seem to inspire the direction of each collection. The architecture as well as the feel of wherever I am. NYC last year and I am off to Spain & Germany later this year so am excited to see the aesthetic that my future collections take
Since creating your own brand, what has been your most significant milestone moment?
My most significant milestone was my first collaboration with Tony Bianco – It was super exciting to be collaborating with such an iconic and large scale company. I was quite shocked that they even knew who I was!
How has collaborating with a huge brand like Tony Bianco changed you/your business?
I have seen how such a large scale organization works and have taken little pointers from them. The collaboration has really helped get my brand out there as well. It is an amazing company to be aligned with.
What has inspired your latest resort collection?
‘Take Me To Monaco ‘collection is both bold and feminine, inspired by the perfect union of beach side glamour and aristocratic French opulence. Each handcrafted piece evokes a sense of lust and longing for a decadent lifestyle by the Mediterranean sea… to be whisked away to the romance of the Belle Époque era with its grand gold leaf ceilings and ornate iron balustrades.
How do you see the Tilly Jewellery woman wearing your latest pieces?
Either to be added effortlessly to your everyday look or as the final touch to an evening outfit, all of the pieces in ‘Take Me To Monaco’ slide seamlessly into any existing wardrobe.
How does it feel to have your creations stocked in stores like Tony Bianco?
It is pretty surreal to see my pieces in there, especially knowing that I hand made each piece myself. I am still pinching my self.
What is next for Tilly Jewellery?
I am focusing more on my own Jewellery collections at the moment. I really want to get my RESORT 18’ Collection ‘Take me to Monaco’ out and about, both internationally and nationally. However, I am working on a new collaboration with a Blog/Online store called Love Twain. Really cool, new pieces are being sampled at the moment. Tilly Jewellery will also be putting out a small capsule collection in the lead up to Christmas.
