As Australia turns up the heat, so should your wardrobe.
Stay up to date with the ever-changing trends with our list of tips on how keep your wardrobe as hot as the weather this season.
1. The classic white tee
Believe it or not, a white t-shirt can be a statement piece. Pair your tee with high-waisted pants, tie it up over a maxi dress or simply wear it with your favourite cut-off denim shorts. But be sure to focus on finding the perfect shape for you – don’t be afraid to try on every style in the store!
2. Pleats for days
Add an element of edge to your look with a pleated gold midi-skirt paired with a rocker tee. Alternatively, opt for a pastel piece if you’re feeling extra girly. There are countless ways to pull off this pretty look.
3. Good old denim
We just can’t get enough! Transform your favourite pair of skinny jeans into a 3/4 pant by rolling up the bottom to showcase your little summer sandals. Don’t shy away from the ripped denim look either. Whether it be something boyfriend style, some denim shorts or a skirt, it’s all about that raw denim edge this season.
4. Nail it!
Remember to look after your nails – they are a telling sign of a well-groomed gal! A poor manicure can easily ruin an otherwise flawless outfit. Forgive me if I sound too much like Elle Woods, but it’s the truth. Pale grey, nude or pastel pink hues are the way to go this summer!
5. Step a-slide
Now we all love a strappy summer sandal, but believe it or not there is now something even comfier on the market. Scoot to the shops and get your self a pair of slides.
6. It all began with her brows
One of the first things style-savvy onlookers notice about a person is their brows. I mean, when you’re looking at someone in the eyes, they’re pretty hard not to notice. My advice: trust the professionals! They’ll be able to sculpt the best shape for you. If you haven’t got your next appointment booked at your local beautician, hop to it.
7. A little 70s flare
The 70s are so groovy right now! If you ask me, flares can work for everyone. It’s all about those soft feminine sleeves and a slight kick at the end of your jeans. If you’re a little wary, start by wearing a statement sleeve with a fitted pant before slowly making your way to the jeans. Here’s a hot tip: flared shorts are extremely flattering for the legs. The bigger the flare, the better!
8. Linen is slimmin’
Linen is the perfect fabric for summer. It drapes over the body softly without clinging – farewell, sticky legs!
9. Time travelling
A watch is an essential item in any girl’s wardrobe. If you’re not a fan of jewellery, at least make the effort to wear a watch. Take the time to find one that feels comfortable on your wrist and don’t be afraid to splurge. Remember, you’ll be wearing it everyday.
10. Fasten your belts
Think black or tan. It’s worth purchasing a good belt, even just to accentuate your waist line. A belt also dresses up any casual look. Large buckles are right on trend.
11. Matchy matchy
Take the time to think about what bag you’ll be taking when you pick out your shoes for the day. Believe me, this will make a world of difference.
12. Get that glow
It’s all about that those balmy beach days, the less makeup- the better! The tomboy look is all the rage this summer. No need to hide those freckles. With a touch of nude lip gloss and a hint of illuminator, consider your makeup done and dusted for the day. It’s too hot to worry about applying anything else.
13. The essential leather jacket
Although it’s summer, get your hands on a leather jacket, preferably black. Slip it on over any outfit and you’re set on a cool summer night.
14. Hot and steamy
DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT step out of the house in a crushed outfit. You may as well have just jumped out of bed and walked straight out the door. If getting the ironing board out seems like too much trouble, get your hands on a steamer (possibly the best invention since sliced bread).
15. Sneaky sneaky
I’ll be honest, I LOVE a good pair of sneakers. In my opinion, they can completely make an entire outfit. It’s about finding the right pair for you!
16. Mad Hatter
Firstly, I’d like to note that we should all be wearing hats this summer to protect our skin, but try to purchase a hat to match your wardrobe, if possible. You’ll thank me when the humidity starts getting to your hair!
17. Itsy bitsy, teeny weeny, yellow polka dot bikini
We’ve all fought the battle of finding the perfect pair of bathers. This season, it’s all about the scoop plunge line and better yet, the one piece is also making a comeback.
18. Work out in style
It’s worth purchasing quality activewear that suits your style and shape. Remember to keep it classic and invest in mostly black or grey to keep your look sporty chic. You may even find yourself working out more often!
19. Make a statement
A statement pair of sunnies is the perfect addition to your outfit. Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Think pink or reflector! Clear frames are also the talk of the town right now.
20. One fine day
Ear decor is a must this season. Don’t be afraid to mix gold and silver either. A fine pair of statement earrings will keep your look minimal and chic.
21. All about that smile
Last but not least: don’t forget to wack on that stunning smile! ‘It takes off 10 years’ – Jane Birkin.
