And they’re made for walking.
Living down under has many benefits, but when it comes to fashion we’re lucky enough to get a glimpse of the biggest winter trends months ahead of the big chill.
If the looks on the street from the most recent fashion month are anything to go by, it’s safe to say that winter boots are essential with any outfit.
Every season, there is an overwhelming selection of new colours, styles and brands to choose from so we take a look at the must-have winter boots that everyone will be wearing this season.
Essential Black Boot
It goes without saying that once the temp drops, a pair of black winter boots are a necessary wardrobe investment. When choosing a pair of black winter boots, imagine yourself wearing them every day for a week with a different outfit. A classic pair of black boots should be able to be worn with most of your wardrobe and will instantly elevate any look.
Kitten Heel Boot
When we first saw the return of the kitten heel last year, we thought it would be a trend that we could never get around. However, the street style images that have flooded our social feeds over the last month have got us thinking otherwise and we’re officially here for the kitten heel boot trend. If you’re new to the trend (like us) opt for a light-washed denim stove pipe jean or a maxi skirt that will just skim the top of the ankle and show of the short heel and pointy toe.
Lace Up Boot
The lace-up boot may not be a new trend but each year there seems to be a number of new lace-up styles to try. Although nothing compares to a trusty pair of Dr Martens, this winter it seems that the lace-up boot is getting elevated. Opt for styles with a slight heel and low-key detail for a 2018 take on a pair of lace-up winter boots.
White kicks had a comeback last year and you can bet that this winter they’re back again and bigger (and bolder) than ever. The streets of New York, London and Paris were awash with many different winter boot styles at fashion month this year, but they all seem to have one thing in common: the colour. Dare to be different? Invest in a pair of white winter boots and don’t look back!
Technically not a pair of winter boots, but the high-top sneaker is differently a front-runner when it comes to on-trend footwear. The sneaker trend isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, but it’s clear that sneakers are changing and reaching new heights. The new popular sneaker style may be referred to as the ugly dad shoe, but it’s a winner in our books. Take cues from Pip Edwards and the Street Smith and pair your chunky high tops with a touch of high fashion and you’ll be good to go.
The bootie definitely had its moment in 2017, but it’s returning this year with a slightly different aesthetic. Nothing beats a classic pair of black sock booties, but this season it’s time to treat your soles to a pop of colour or some interesting detail.
There is no question that over-the-knee winter boots have been a popular choice for the last couple of years, and rightly so. But, it’s how you style them that changes up your winter looks. Rather than opting for short skirts and dresses that meet where your boots finish, try midi-length skirts and ankle-sweeping coats to give a layered effect.
