From Disney sing-alongs to shopping for new homewares, there is a lot to do this weekend that will get your out of your weekend rut. Paniyiri is also making its annual return, so you can bet we’ll be deep in a honey-puff food coma come Monday morning…

Sheike Wintergarden Opening | Thurs, May 17
Sheike is the latest Wintergarden store to undergo a style makeover, after Mecca Maxima’s massive renovation last September. And it’s just in time for race season! Our go-to brand when we’re looking for something special, Sheike will re-open their doors this Thursday to a new, even bigger store. With a 15% off promotion on full price items in store, be sure to line up early. Free coffees and pastries will also be on offer between 9 and 12am, and the first 60 customers will receive a little something extra from Sheike to say thank you! If we call in sick, you know where we’ll be.
The Brookfield Show | Fri, May 18 – Sun, May 20
It’s time to dust off those RM’s because it’s nearly show time! For those of you who have never braved the scenic journey to the outskirts of Brisbane (only 25 mins from the CBD… seriously), you are missing out on an all-encompassing mini-Ekka. Why anxiously wait until August for those Bertie Beetle and Trolli Showbags? If you see more horses being ridden than dogs being walked, you’ll know you’ve made it. Get your country on at the Brooky Show for a weekend packed with fireworks, FMX bikes, jousting, bull-riding, horse jumping, and of course, locals! With different vibes every day/night, you can either hit up Friday night when all the youngsters emerge, venture out during the days for a family (and pet) friendly atmosphere, or go on Saturday night for an older, thirstier crowd! The Brookfield Show literally has something for everyone with art, plant and woodwork shows, petting zoos, rides galore and food trucks at every turn! Done and dusted.
Paniyiri | Sat, May 19 – Sun, May 20
Honey Puffs, Octopi and Lamb Gyros are filling our dreams lately and we are in desperate need to make them a reality. With Greek dancing, authentic live music and Yiayias’ serving up their hearts on your plate, this festival keeps up with its Greek roots of open arms and satisfied stomachs. We can guarantee you will not find people happier to see you stuff your face with their food than at Paniyiri. If that’s not enticing enough, Home & Away icons Sophie Dillman (Ziggy) and Patrick O’Connor (Dean) are trading beaches for Baklava with a Paniyiri meet & greet! Get yourself to the Greek this weekend, most of the Style HQ sure will be.
Blues on Broadbeach | Thurs, May 17 – Sun, May 20
Blues On Broadbeach is back and year 17 is set to be the biggest year yet. Featuring the likes of Ash Grunwald, The Robert Cray Band, The Screaming Jets, Jon Stevens, Lloyd Spiegel and Backsliders to name a few, soulful sounds are sure to be reverberating off the sand. The dynamic streets of Broadbeach and the striking beachfront will host 20 performance arenas filled with Blues enthusiasts’, lively locals and travelling devotees alike. Broadbeach will become a hub for the best of food, drinks, activities and music! This multi-award winning free music festival, birthed by the Broadbeach Alliance has captured the hearts of music lovers around Queensland. What better way to spend your weekend than at beautiful Broadbeach complete with live music
Myriad Festival | Wed, May 16 – Thurs, May 17
The Myriad Festival is a celebration of leading innovation in Australia. This is an annual gathering of some of the world’s most influential entrepreneurs, thinkers, tinkerers, specialists, radicals and renegades. Showcasing all-things technology with a myriad of perspectives, experiences, and opportunities throughout the festival, they’re all about making a difference through shared learning. Advancements in technology are how we have evolved and it’s all about the younger generation taking hold of the future! The canny festival organisers have drastically lowered the price for students, not-for-profit and other social entrepreneurs, making this event equally stimulating and affordable! But keeping with all-thing music, you can also hit up the official ‘Deadly’ opening party at the Tivoli featuring DJ Overwerk, Jonti, The Goods and Milan Ring, with free entry with all Myriad Engage Tickets!
Club Greenslopes | Sat, May 19
From 5.30pm to 8.30pm, Ken Kunin and the Crooked Sky will be gracing Greenslopes at this free music event! Get ready for 90s rock with a roots vibe – their influential and dynamic music will have you hooked. Since LA native Ken Kunin’s release of six albums in the 90s and early 2000s, he has since combined rock forces to create Ken Kunin and the Crooked Sky! Heading up the band, these rock gods will make certain your Saturday night is a vibey one. Why not arrive a little early for a quick game of barefoot bowls? We’re sure you can think of a few ways to incorporate some drinking games.
Disney Sing-Along Season | Sat, May 19 – Sun, May 20
Although this event is marketed at kids, I think it’s hitting most millennials pretty damn hard, right in the feels. Newmarket Reading cinemas are doing so much RIGHT, with their $10 movie tickets now extending to Disney sing-alongs! The Newest Disney movie Moana will be hitting the big screen yet again, but this time, we won’t be glanced at judgingly for singing along! Filled with adventure, life-lessons and cute outfits (so, yeah, the recipe to an instant-classic Disney movie) this CG-animated feature film follows teenager Moana, who sails out on a mission to save her people. Showing at 10am both on Saturday and Sunday this weekend, there is no better chance to treat any little ones in your life, or just embrace a full-fledged girl’s weekend with the ultimate chick-flick!
Disco Indians’ Single Release | Sat, May 19
Heya Bar is our closed-eyes, habitual go-to for those late-night cheeseburger spring roll cravings, but this time we’re interested in a groovier event. In the Heywire bar, tucked away in the dark depths of Heya Bar (confusing, we know), Psych-Western instrumental group Disco Indians will be taking over! In celebration of their newest single release ‘Static’, they will be joined with Psych-Rock band Strange Seed and Indie band Sid’s Balcony! Yep, that’s a solid mix from the genre raffle, but it’s is set to be one of Heya Bar’s biggest nights yet. Heywire is also teaming up with Green Beacon Brewing Co, ensuring quality free-flowing booze all night long! With free entry like always, join this exploration into the lost world of the Zodiac.
