West End’s Russell Street is shutting down and letting the local art scene shine this weekend in Brisbane. As Brissy’s first dedicated street festival and market celebrating urban art and design, these guys are ready to put on a fest you won’t easily forget. The day is set to include 100+ market stalls, which showcasing the best works of our art community as well as over 30 street food stalls to enjoy as you browse the works. Tickets are $10 at the door or $5 presale and you’ll definitely be getting your money’s worth with competitions, loads of activities and live entertainment all day.

Brisbane Burger Fest | Sat, Oct 21

Grab the day with both hands as Stone & Wood and The Triffid bring you Brisbane’s first burger festival, Burger Fest. Featuring all your local faves, this weekend in Brisbane you can expect to see the classics you know and love as well as a Burger Fest exclusive burger from each stall – think Ze Pickle, Miss Kay’s, Red Hook and Ben’s Burgers to name a few. This is a free event and will include live tunes all day as well as a burger eating comp or two – sign me up!

Their Memories… Do Not Open tour has already graced US shores and cemented the duo’s place in the industry as a pop-producing force to be reckoned with. While it’s one of the oldest practiced crafts in many cultures around the world, weaved baskets and bags have become quite the trend in recent times. So of course, there’s a class for that. This workshop will help you make your own out basket out of wild materials found in the local environment. The class is $85 but you’ll be walking away with two of your own small baskets and the skills to create many more in your own time.

If unleashing your inner activist sounds like a weekend well spent, then head to Queens Garden for the Rally for Marriage Equality this weekend in Brisbane. Don a rainbow get-up and, if you’re feeling extra creative, paint a banner or two. The rally comes after a record-breaking 10,000 supporters turned up to September’s march for equality with hopes to urge the public to get their ‘Yes’ votes in.
