Prepare to feel a little dusty come Monday.
The February fast has come and gone and (while we might not have been totally dedicated to the cause) our temporary alcohol-abstinence has us fiending for a drink this weekend. Whether it’s enjoyed downward-dog style on a yoga mat or on the slopes of Sirromet Wines, there are plenty of excuses to indulge in a tipple or two this weekend. Or, if you prefer your wine with a hefty serving of Italian food on the side, Il Locale’s gnocchi masterclass will have you embracing your inner chef. If you’ve been wondering what’s on this weekend in Brisbane wonder no more. Cheers to the freakin’ weekend!
Detox/Retox at Welcome To Bowen Hills | Thurs, Mar 8
So here’s the deal: our favourite people over at Welcome To Bowen Hills know that life is all about balance. Little bit of give, little bit of take. That is why they are hosting their very own beer & yoga night, in an innovative effort to detox our minds and retox our livers. Or something like that. Frankly, any excuse for a beer on a school night will do us just fine. Tickets are $15 and will get you into the yoga class (although it’s completely up to you how well you do) and a complimentary pint of beer after to reward yourself. BYO mat!
Alliance Française French Film Festival Opening Gala | Thurs, Mar 8

If you’ve been on the fitness train lately this next event might be a little too tempting for you… Once again, Portside Wharf is hosting their annual Cheese & Champagne pop-up event and this time it is bigger than ever! Portside Wharf favourites, The Cheese Pleaser and Gusto da Gianni are teaming up with Moët & Chandon for a weekend of decadence whereby guests will be able to relax in the pop-up lounge or even enjoy basking in the sunshine on their very own picnic rug. It’s a huge affair each year with some of the best international cheeses on showcase as well as flowing Moët & Chandon Champagne. If you’re not sure where to start, we recommend the $15 platter of handpicked cheeses perfectly curated by cheese expert, Sharyn de Kort from The Cheese Pleaser.

Chiki Tiki Rum Festival | Sat, Mar 10
If, like us, you don’t mind indulging in a liquor festival of some kind (Gin Sanity was basically our idea of heaven) then you need to hit up the Chiki Tiki Rum Festival happening this weekend at Bakery Lane. Sending off summer the right way, the festival comes from the same geniuses behind Gin Sanity (the Moubment Group, in case you want to send a thank you card) and will showcase some of the most delicious rums on the market. To celebrate the vibrant tiki and rum culture, the festival will feature rum cocktails, unique pours, delicious bites, masterclass presentations, and live music. It’s basically a chance to feel what it might be like to be a pirate (but without the scurvy). Side note: tickets are only $15 and include a drink upon arrival. Score!
Gnocchi Making Workshop at Il Locale | Sat, Mar 10
If you have ever tried making your own pasta and been disappointed, we’ve found the solution. Put away Jamie Oliver’s 30-Minute Meals and instead make your way to Il Locale Italian Restaurant in Rosalie and immerse yourself in their gnocchi making workshop! For $95, they will walk you through how to make your own light and pillowy gnocchi and sauces. Under the careful tutelage of their Italian head chef (so you know it’s legit) they will show you how to make traditional potato gnocchi as well as beetroot gnocchi and truffle gnocchi. After filling your brain with knowledge, you can then fill your belly with the fruits (or, gnocchi) of your labour and enjoy lunch with a glass of wine. It’s like a scene straight out of Eat, Pray, Love.
James Blunt Live at Sirromet Wines A Day On The Green | Sun, Mar 11

There’s something about the heart-wrenching lyrics, soulful delivery, and Blunt’s singing that just gets us every time. This weekend James Blunt will be topping the lineup at Sirromet Wines’ A Day On The Green, alongside legends such as Pete Murray, Busby Marou, and more. In case you aren’t familiar with it, A Day On The Green is one of Brisbane’s premier winery festivals and takes place all across the country at some of the best wineries in Australia. So yes, it’s a pretty big deal. You are encouraged to take along your own picnic mat or day tent so that you can really settle in and enjoy the day in comfort. It’s a stunning event and definitely one to attend, so purchase your ticket ASAP!
Breakfast of Champions at Brewhouse | Sun, Mar 11
If Sunday morning finds you a little dusty, Brewhouse’s Breakfast Of Champions might be just what the doctor ordered. For $40, you can enjoy three-courses of breakfast eats, specialty coffee from the Bear Bones Specialty Coffee team, and, if hair of the dog is in order, brews from Brisbane Brewing Co. and Modus Operandi Brewing Co. will be flowing. It’s set to be a big one so make sure you get your tickets before they sell out. Celebrate your champion efforts with a champion breakfast and kickstart the work week the right way!
