And I’m off to the races! 🐎
While racing season may well and truly be over for another year, we still find ourselves scrolling through Instagram for endless hair inspo that we can recreate when we are feeling in a bit of a style slump. Because when it comes to the Spring Racing Carnival, it’s not just the fashion that stops us in our tracks – it’s the beauty looks, too, and this year’s carnival was no different. Whether it’s ditching the fascinator and embracing the turban, or loose waves that look seaside-fresh, we’re pinning all our favourite looks so that we can try them ourselves, trackside or not.
Scroll on to discover our favourite hair styling trends from the 2017 racing season!
Boater hats dominated the field this season, with nary a socialite seen without one at some point during the season. Whether it’s a wide-brimmed boater cocked to the side or a dainty little hat with a shiny satin ribbon, boater hats were easily the trend du jour this season!
If we learned anything this racing season, it’s that turbans are here to stay! A little edgier than headbands and quirkier than hats, turbans are the spunky alternative to traditional headpieces. Reach new heights with high-volumes buns, or add a bit of interest with a subtle knot above billowing waves.
From fine gold barrettes to delicate headbands, dainty hair pieces were seen in full force this spring racing season. With so many styles to choose from, it’s easy to incorporate this trend into your daily style – just add loose waves and sea salt spray and you’re good to go!
We were getting some serious Blossom (from The Powerpuff Girls) vibes with the number of bows that were trackside this year. Voluminous bows in dark velvet and bandana print ribbons were the most popular Large ponytails were given a playful-edge with voluminous bows, and small buns (possibly hiding three-day-old hair) were refined with smaller, brighter embellishments.
With quirky headpieces and non-traditional styling, there were a few it-girls that really blew us away this year. From Shanina Shaik’s laced-braids to Rose McEvoy’s jaw-dropping pony & turban combo, these looks are not for the faint of heart, and we can’t wait to recreate them for everything from new years eve parties to music festivals.
